About MESS

Good things come from Mess.

Mess was founded in 2021 by Madeleine Parry and Peter Hanlon as a place to nurture stories with an authored voice and an international audience. Our partners are local, national and international - chosen not for their location, but for their shared values and vision.

Madeleine Parry

Co-founder & Managing Director
Madeleine Parry is a writer, director and producer. She directed the Emmy and Peabody-award winning Hannah Gadsby: Nanette (2018) for Netflix and has been a key creative on 12 commissioned works from micro to multi-million dollar. She began at 20 years of age with the multi-Best Film award-winning short, Murder Mouth (2011), which followed her learning to kill her own food including to make avgolemono chicken soup with her Greek Yia Yia. She wrote, directed and hosted the award-winning Maddie Parry documentary series which out-rated the competition on free-to-air national TV. Since founding Mess Productions in 2021, she has been mentored by Chloe Zhao's production company, Book of Shadows (Hamnet), and mentored by two-time Oscar winning director Asghar Farhadi (A Separation, The Salesman) on a proof of concept short for her first feature, Eleftheria, which is currently financing - being co-produced by Mess Productions and Photoplay Films.

Peter Hanlon
Co-founder & Producer
Peter Hanlon is the producer of the Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) Opening Night film (2022) The Angels: Kickin’ Down the Door, and the AFF Closing Night film (2024) Kangaroo Island. Hanlon is a former Chair of both the South Australian Film Corporation and The Mercury (a screen development organisation and cinema). Hanlon has been producing, writing and directing films since 2015. Prior to this Hanlon had an extensive career as a senior banking executive.
